Buk'n Bar Soap FAQs

Q. How long does a bar of Buk'n Bar Ranch Soap last?

A. It will depend on many factors, but generally, if using as a shower bar and if taken care of (see below) we have found that, for our 210 lb. first-in-line to test soaps soap-tester who goes the direct soap to skin route, one bar lasts about 12 to 17 uses. How big the person is who is using the soap, and how they use it (soap to skin, with a loofah or washcloth, etc.) will factor in to how long your bar lasts for you.

Q. What is the best way to take care of my bar of Buk' Bar Ranch soap?

A. Our Buk'n Bar Ranch Soaps are specially formulated so that the finished product is a hard, long-lasting bar of soap. However, as with all handmade soap, if it is left in standing water and not allowed to dry out between uses it will become soft and sometimes mushy which will result in a short-lived experience with your Buk'n Bar Ranch Soap.  We recommend using a slatted shower caddy for your shower bar, and a slatted soap dish (wood, wire, glass or any kind) for you hand bar.

Q. Why did you start making Buk'n Bar Ranch Soaps?

A. The simple answer is, well, we stumbled into it a bit. We had never really thought too much about our shower soaps, other than we bought big brand commercially manufactured soap (or cleansing bars, or whatever else they are called) and thought that was the "best" option. But, our eyes were opened after a school science project for one of our kids led to having to learn how to make some soap at home one weekend. As it turned out, the soap we made that weekend was pretty decent, and being the types to use what we made so not to create waste, we used it and ended up liking the cleaning, moisturizing and nourishing qualities of the homemade soap.  When we tried going back to the commercially manufactured soap we had been using we could tell the difference right away. We decided homemade soap was a better option for us, and thought there might be others who would like to try it as well. As a result, Buk'n Bar Ranch Soaps were born.

Q. How are Buk'n Bar Ranch Soaps made?

A. All of our bars of soap are handmade (or "Ranchcrafted by Hand" as we like to say) in small batches using the cold process soap making method. We mix our lye and distilled water (or other liquid depending on the soap recipe) and our oil blend separately, and then combine the two together to start the saponification process that creates soap.  Next we add whatever natural additives, colors and scents are included in the recipe to make our soap batter. The batter is then poured into soap molds and let to harden for 24-48 hours. The soap loaf is then removed from the mold and cut into bars. Finally, the bars are left to cure for 4 to 6 weeks.

Q. What oils do Buk'n Bar Ranch Soaps use as ingredients?

A. We use a combination of hard and soft oils to give our bars a hard, long-lasting quality while also making sure they are moisturizing and nourishing while always getting you Buk'n clean. All of our bars currently include olive oil, shea butter, coconut oil, palm oil, castor oil and sunflower oil.  If you have allergies or other questions about what ingredients our bars of soap contain, be sure to read the ingredient label/list for each bar of soap to check all of the ingredients before you buy.  Or send us an email and we would be happy to discuss our soap ingredients with you.

Q. What other ingredients do Buk'n Bar Ranch soaps contain?

A. We use several types of natural additives to give our soaps different beneficial qualities.  Some of the additional natural ingredients we use in our soaps are activated charcoal, colloidal oatmeal, kaolin clay, Rhassoul clay, red clay and crushed walnut shells.  Please read the ingredient labels to see all ingredients that each bar of soap contains.
